Jodi R. says, "She does what she says and is there for support after all the training. I learned a lot about habits that I needed to improve on (ie: there’s no need to talk to your dog as your leaving the house if they have separation issues) so it made me better for my dog." Read more

Justin C. says, "Tom assisted in getting my golden retriever to respond more enthusiastically to basic commands. He had been home schooled for two years and needed a more precise reaction to commands. She loved on my two dogs and cat for 18 days and as I requested updates throughout the day ( my poodle was just spayed so I was so worried about leaving her). Kayla sent me updates every few hours and truly took such GREAT care of my bubs. My last pet sitter lost my dog for 5 hours and was terrified to do this again but its like god was watching over me. Kayla you are a godsend as I told you and want you to know how much you're appreciated, thank you for helping me with my ptsd from my prior sitter and now I can travel to see my daughters at school more. The results. In most cases the issue that I was called for is just the tip of the real problem. I educate my clients on dog behavior, communication, and positive reinforcement so that they can train their dog to be a member of their household. Most dogs will respond quickly to my preferred methods and my clients see the results within one to two sessions. In addition, I provide affordable kennel free boarding in my home for one family at a time. These dogs become a member of my household....

Your Dog Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

Professional dog training costs $30 to $50 per group class and $45 to $120 per private session. Dog obedience training schools cost $200 to $600 per week, and boot camp kennel training costs $500 to $1,250 per week. Get exact prices by contacting affordable dog trainers near you.

Local dog trainers teach dogs basic obedience, behavioral modification, agility, personal protection or guarding, emotional support, therapy or service dog training, show dog handling, puppy training, trick training, hunting training, police dog or K9 training, and other types.

Certified dog trainers offer group classes, private lessons, or come to your home for one-on-one training. The best in-home dog trainers also teach the owner how to train commands, use body language, and offer proper reinforcement guidance. Many dog trainers use positive reinforcement, which uses a reward (treats, praise, toys) for desired behaviors.

Puppies 7 to 8 weeks of age begin to learn basic obedience commands such as “sit,” “stay,” “stand,” and “down.” Professional dog training traditionally starts at 6 months old. By delaying training, behavioral patterns learned during puppyhood likely take longer to change.

Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks! Dogs can learn and be trained at any age. Older dogs have more self-control and are easier to train than young puppies. Continuing to train your dog as it matures is also important to help keep their mind sharp.

Private dog training helps correct your dog’s behavior, aggression, anxiety, socialization skills, and teaches them a commands list in a timely and cost-effective manner. Common commands dogs learn quickly are to stay, heel, and roll over.

Professional dog training is valuable because it teaches your dog not to jump or bite, to stop barking, to stay in the yard off-leash, potty training, to use a dog door, not to pull on a leash, hand signals, and much more.

The easiest dog breeds to train are an Australian Shepherd, Corgi, Bearded or Border Collie, Poodle, Miniature Schnauzer, Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, and a Doberman Pinscher. Female canines of all breeds are also easier to train and housebreak.

The hardest dogs breeds to train are a Husky, Mastiff, Pug, Beagle, Bulldog, Weimaraner, Afghan Hound, Basenji, Basset Hound, Bloodhound, Chow Chow, Dalmatian, Fox and Kerry Blue Terrier, Irish Setter, Pekingese, Pit Bull Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, and a Rottweiler.

K9Katelynn dog training is simply a great company to hire for your positive reinforced dog training. He helped my wife and I take on the training of two rat terrier puppies. I don’t know what we would have done without the very professional guidance. To make it even more impressive (due to an illness I had to leave my place of work) K9 gave me a refund of all unused lessons. They were under no obligation to do this. K9 did it quickly sending me the money in a cashiers check. A truly professional company.

Highly recommend doesn’t even seem like enough to express how much Debby helped our family as we brought home a new rescue boxer back in May 2018. When we adopted our new rescue we had another senior boxer rescue who had leash aggression issues. Our new dog had some serious fear and confidence issues. I made the classic mistake of introducing these two dogs at the wrong time and in the wrong way and it went terrible. They had a huge fight which became the basis of their early relationship. Like a rookie, I repeated this mistake once again a few days later with the same results. I was devastated and freaked out. That was when Debby was recommended to us to help with socializing the dogs. Over the course of the next six weeks, I would say that she taught US as owners how to handle the dogs. We became more confident as did the dogs. She made herself available to meet with us weekly and provided tips and suggestions at each and every step. In addition, she reached out by text to check on how things were going. She genuinely cared about us and the dogs! In the beginning I was really losing hope that these two dogs would ever get along but with Debby’s help they eventually did and became extremely close - something I truly never thought possible. Fast forward a few months, after losing our senior dog we decided to adopt again. This time I called Debby in advance to ask for her help introducing the dogs to avoid the same issues we had before. She of course helped us and he absolutely no issues whatsoever!! I really believe without her help our boxer rescue would not have successfully integrated into our family and we would have had to return her. But because if Debby she has become a part of our family forever. Regardless of the issues you are having with your dog, I am confident in Debby’s ability to help you and I highly recommend her to anyone.

Kayla and her husband were great. I was a little skeptical bc of the area she lives by but I am so happy I went with my gut because my dogs were so well taken care of. Never judge a book by ita cover because ive had pet sitters in million dollar homes and have had TERRIBLE experiences. She sent me daily pics and she gave them baths and groomed them without charge. Thank you kayla!!!!!!!!

Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Reliability, Responsiveness, Value I can’t begin to express my gratitude for Thomas and his training expertise! I saved a 1.5 year old golden/Australian shepherd from the euthanasia list due to the extreme abuse he had suffered over his short little life, he became to a point he didn’t trust humans. For a year I had him in trainings, boot camps, and just everything I could think of to help him be a successful do in society. I met Thomas at our 3rd attempt of training, our second boot camp experience. Our first boot camp experience was awful, the dog I dropped off came back almost worst. Thomas was able to connect with Dexter in a way that no other trainers had. They developed a bond that he was able to listen and get Dexter to understand the behavior modification that was needed. The way Thomas could read Dexters social cues were on point. I had caught on to them because I was his foster mom, and he lived with me, but Thomas picked up on them in a day or two. In 10 weeks it went from Dexter needing 3 day introductions to new people, to 20 minutes. From learning his commands of place, quiet, off and needing minimal reinforcement. It was amazing to see a dog so close to being euthanized.. a dog who was fear aggressive now responding so well and able to even have strangers bath him and rub his belly (sensitive and normally reactive spots before). Thomas truly understands dogs and behaviors. He has a passion for this and uses that to make a difference in these dogs lives. Icing on the cake was when Dexter was due to be adopted Thomas went to go drop him off and do a training to the new family, there was an incident outside of Dexters control and instead of continuing with the day which would not have been the best thing for Dexter or his new owners, Thomas volunteered to let Dexter go decompress at his own house, and start fresh the next day. If this is not a 10 star service I don’t know what is! I am very thankful for Thomas as I don’t know that Dexter would be where he is at now without him! Every family who is training their dog needs a Thomas! So thank you Thomas! You have saved Dexter and imprinted on us forever! This is truly your calling!

My husband and I are very pleased and very satisfied with the obedience dog training course provided by Canine Authority. Our dog trainer Mr. Andy Luper is definitely the “top trainer and dog behaviorist in the field”! When he first met our dog T-Bone (a 2 year old Australian Shepard), T-Bone was very aggressive towards him, almost like a fear aggression. My dog would not let the trainer near him and he was trying to bite him. By our last lesson it’s like a miracle happened. Now our dog T-Bone actually looked forward with working with our trainer. T-Bone has changed totally. He doesn’t bark and give that aggressive look anymore at people he doesn’t know. He’s more calmer outside and I continually work him daily in his obedience commands to keep him in line. He’s a pet now that I can enjoy. Mr. Andy Luper indeed is most professional and a loyal pet lover.
