Phil J. says, "I contracted RCS Floor Covering to replace the flooring in my entire 2-story, 2500 sq.ft. home. Rick came out to our house with many, many flooring samples so we could decide which color and material would work best for us. He was very helpful in assisting us pick out the perfect flooring. The product was ordered and delivered right on time for the work to begin. The dumpster was delivered the morning of work and Rick's crew showed up promptly at the right time ready to begin work. The flooring crew proceed to remove all the old carpet, remove the old baseboard and prepare the whole house for the new flooring. They did a great job. The next day, the new flooring job began and they did a great job of installing all the new laminate flooring throughout the entire downstairs, stairway and upstairs. The entire job was completed in 5 days. They did not damage any of the walls or trim. Rick's crew went above and beyond the scope of work to mitigate any small problems that came up and I was very impressed. The new flooring came out excellent and I am very happy with the results. I would hire RCS Floor Covering again any time and highly recommend RCS Floor Covering. Job well done Rick! Phil Jelleff Gilroy, CA On Sunday, March 7, 2021, 08:07:32 AM PST, " Read more

Lozark Q. says, "Great work thanks to Rudy and his crew not only did my house value go up but was able to sell in a heartbeat! We received tremendous attention when work was still in progress and lots of compliments from neighbors. Will definitely hire again for future work. I've also recommended Rudy to close friends and family. Hire Rudy only if you want quality work as he does not disappoint is direct and gives you many options and works extremely hard to finish your projects one after another keeping an eye on the smallest details. 😉 " Read more

Your Floor Installation or Replacement questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

Flooring installation costs $6 to $10 per square foot, depending on the material:

  • Laminate flooring costs $6 to $9 per square foot installed.
  • Hardwood flooring costs $10 to $18 per square foot but lasts longer than most other materials.
  • Vinyl or linoleum flooring costs $3 to $10 per square foot and is a popular alternative to hardwood.

Each type of flooring has pros and cons:

  • Hardwood flooring costs more than other materials but is best for increasing home value.
  • Laminate and vinyl are easy to install and maintain but don't last as long as hardwood.
  • Tile flooring is best for bathrooms and kitchens because it's water resistant and long-lasting.
  • Carpet is comfortable and affordable but harder to keep clean.

Floor installers, like most other contractors, do not typically expect a tip. Some may appreciate a tip if you feel they went above and beyond, but some installers who work for large retail companies are not allowed to accept tips.

Professional flooring installers and carpet fitters are the type of contractors that install flooring. Some popular hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowe's offer flooring installation services.

Start by searching our list of professional flooring installers, then:

  • Get at least three free estimates to compare.
  • Read reviews and browse previous work on HomeGuide and Google.
  • Choose a company that is licensed, bonded, and experienced.
  • Verify their insurance, warranty, and guarantees.
  • Get a detailed estimate, contract, and warranty in writing before work begins.
  • Avoid making large payments up front and come up with a payment schedule instead.

After asking questions and verifying their credentials, hire the best flooring company in your area.

When looking for local flooring companies, consider asking the following questions:

  • How long have you been in business?
  • Can I see a portfolio of past work?
  • Are you licensed, insured, and bonded?
  • What type of floor material do you recommend for this project?
  • How do you handle any damage that happens on the job?
  • Will you hire any subcontractors for this job?
  • What hours does your crew work? Can I stay in my home during those hours?
  • How long will the project take?
  • Will this job need any permits? If so, will you get them?
  • What does your warranty include?
  • Can you give me an estimate, contract, and payment plan in writing?

Masi of International Dateline is a pro! We had two important goals for the project: 1. We needed the old, broken up driveway removed and replaced with a new one and 2. we needed a way to move water from the backyard to the front curb. The end result was beautiful and showed the years of experience International Dateline has with projects like these. Things you should know: 1. Masi keeps his quotes low. There's no built-in padding. That means you get the best price. It also means that if you make changes to your project, it may cost a bit more. We did that with our drainage solution and Masi was incredible at executing our vision, fabricating a perfectly-sized catchment and drain system. It cost a bit more and was worth every penny. 2. Your job site may not be perfectly clean every day, but your finished product will look fantastic. Like most contracting projects, job-critical tools may be left onsite while the project is ongoing. Masi finishes his projects with care and leaves the site clean at the end. With ours, he took care to back fill all the excavated edges of the concrete so every edge had a finished look. 3. Masi will communicate! Masi is not shy about talking with you, getting your thoughts and working with you to help achieve a result you will be happy with. All of our new concrete looks fantastic and is very functional with a gentle grade to move water away from our home. The new drainage looks great, seamlessly integrates with the driveway and functions just the way we want it to. We would not hesitate to hire International Dateline Concrete again.
